HFStival Saturday, Sept 17th

Hey kids,

We're playing HFStival this Saturday, Sept. 17th, at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD. Tickets are $35, which includes an entire day of music, plus there are all sorts of booths and whatnot to entertain you all day (and beer and hot dogs, of course). We'll be playing a bunch of songs from our upcoming album, so it's well worth your time to come out. Or so The Baltimore Sun would have you believe:
"Singer Stephen Kilroy's voice sounds a lot like Arcade Fire's Win Butler, which is a good thing, as there are worse frontmen to be compared to. The D.C. band works loud-to-soft dynamics with powerful results, and its intensity has been a calling card of its live shows."
Win Butler, eh? I suppose I'll consider that a . . . win. Don't worry, I hate myself for that pun more than you ever could.

Smooches,

MDR CHAT!

So we've been playing around with GoogleVoice, and realized that we could own the number 443-MDR-CHAT, which would allow YOU, THE FAN, to call us up and leave a voicemail! It's easy: just call that number or use the handy widget in the sidebar to the right ==> by entering your name and phone number. GoogleVoice will call your number, and when you answer the phone, it'll connect you to us. It's a cinch!

You can tell us what you think of the band, tell us how crappy your day was, or confess your sins . . . and we may just forgive you.

Have your people call my people.

El Borracho

This photo of us playing in front of RFK Stadium would be hilarious if only the drunk guy were in front of us, but the expressions of the security guards elevate this photo to genius level. Thanks to Martin Fernandez for the photo!

NEW SONG: "Hot Pursuit"

Last night we recorded a live version of a song that will be on our upcoming album. It's called "Hot Pursuit" (working title), and though the headline says it's a new song, Steve actually wrote it ten years ago. In 2001. When he was a freshman in college. Last decade. Anyway, it's not that we didn't like it or didn't want to work on it, we just didn't think it really fit with anything else. So take this as a heads-up that our next album is gonna be funkier than a mosquito's tweeter. Ya heard?

xoxo,
MDR

Recording "What A Woman Wants"

Over the weekend, we had Raw Poetic jump on the mic for a new jam called "What A Woman Wants". In his words:

"Raw Poetic with Middle Distance Runner, it's just magic happens, it's like boom bop bing welcome to the studio with it."

Pump the waist, don't pump the brakes, enjoy:

Recording "Firehouse"

In today's video, Erik and Steve hit the studio to work on a new song called "Firehouse". Highlights include:
  • Erik kickin' the funky bizniss
  • Steve singing one line from the song, cut to Axl-Rose-having-a-stroke outro vocal
  • Teamwork: Steve plays organ while Erik pushes random buttons (the MDR secret!)

Bass Lesson # 1

Tony was kind enough to take a break from recording to give us a little lesson on combining R&B bass and Metal bass.

Welcome!

Welcome to our new website! We're in the studio right now recording our fourth album, so check in here for picture and video updates from the studio and stay tuned for details on the release.

You can also follow this blog by signing up in the Google Friend Connect sidebar to the right of this post, listen to EVERY ONE of our songs in the Music tab above, and drool over handsome photos of us in the Pics tab.

Stay funky, stay fresh, stay cool, do you.
